Hungarton   15 September 2005   10:18:35

Woken by low flying, noisy aircraft at 1.45am on 15th September, between then and 3.15am no fewer than 6 low flying aircraft passed over my house. It is obviously bad enough during the daytime but is totally unacceptable at night bearing in mind that I chose to live in Hungarton for peace and tranquility,I had no choice in the imposition of this horrendous flight path

Oadby   14 September 2005   21:12:57

I'm interested to know if anyone is actually monitoring the actual use of the new flight paths vs the plans that were "approved" for NEMA to use. Surely any significant variance from the approved plans would be unlawful, raising the possibility of a civil law suit from residents vs NEMA or the airline operator for the noise pollution? We live in Oadby and I had thought they were only supposed to be going to the south east of the village, however they are routinely going over the houses in our area and I have been woken up by very loud plane noise at least every week or so since the new flight paths began. Can anyone tell me if this is the correct path or not? The true costs of the new flight paths need to hit NEMA somewhere it hurts. I find it disgusting that flights from NEMA are being advertised for as little as £5.99 a seat because (A) they don't pay any fuel duty and (B) they can wake up half of Leicestershire with their flights and pay nothing in the way of compensation for doing this.

We are directly under the incoming flightpath and very regularly have flights during the night. For example last night starting at just after 3 o,clock we had four flights ending at about 4.30 which meant that me and my wife had about 4 hours decent sleep. We cannot function at work with this disturbance.I have rung the airport previously and have received a letter,in essence saying that the commercial activity of the aircraft is good for the local economy and therfore it is 'tough luck' on us.My wife woke up saying that she wished she had an ack ack gun (They need not worry, I'm pretty sure she can't get hold of one). Seriously, we would be glad of your advice on how to make our point felt by the airport owners.

Church Broughton   13 September 2005   10:12:35

Mr Robinson, you have indicated that arriving aircraft cruise above 8000 feet, However we were able to count the windows of the planes on several occasions! I would be grateful if you could provide us the actual altitudes of planes over Church Broughton for the 12 hour period of the 2nd September 05 from 1800 to 0600 which was a particularly busy evening. I would also be grateful about receiving information on the voluntary night noise policy for departing aircraft. A speedy response would be appreciated

Hoby   10 September 2005   07:19:09

This morning I was again woken by an excessively noisy aircraft at 03.59. It seems to happen relatively frequently. Yesterday at lunchtime 13.00 we had a really noisy Easyjet 737 aircraft descend over our village. All the westerly arrivals into NEMA are noisy, but some aircraft are far more noisy than others. There also seems to be a large variation in the flight paths taken by the pilots, but with most descending on the easterly edge of the route directly over Hoby or even to the east of us near Asfordby. I have written to complain again!

Gaddesby   09 September 2005   10:58:58

Yet again woken through the night by never ending aircraft noise..The planes just seem to be getting more frequent and lower and lower. The noise was so bad I got out of bed to see the most enormous plane appearing just clearing the treetops..The various coloured lights from the plane were so bright they illuminated the room. All this before the night freight flights have even begun!! It has totally ruined our lovely peaceful rural lives. We paid a premium to live in a conservation village were you can't even fell a tree in your own garden without planning permission. However, our village is now polluted by 247 airccaft noise that is going to get even worse how can this be right?. If we had known that this was going to happen we would never have bought our home nine years ago. After all the people who lived under the previous flight paths had the choice to buy homes there or not..why have we not been given that right? Our homes must now be devalued by thousands and our lives are being blighted...it needs to stop.

Great Glen   08 September 2005   13:32:17

It's such a shame and we have to suffer the constant noice of aircraft. I deliberately moved to Glen for the peace and quiet. I am frequently awoken with low flying and extremely noisy aircrafts. At night, you can actually see them coming in to land (I assume) and there are so many of them. Had I wanted to be subjected to the constant noise and interruption, I would have bought a house under a flight path. I do also worry about the problem of pollution since these flights started

East Goscote   07 September 2005   07:12:35

Wedneasday 7th September 2005 I was woken at 4.24a.m. and 5.29a.m. this morning by the now familiar drone of aircraft passing over my house. At 6.30a.m. my alarm went off. It has been bad enough enduring the procession of planes zig-zagging across my, once peaceful, garden during the day, but surely the people of the East Midlands have the basic right to sleep? NEMA obviously thinks not!

Frisby on the Wreake   06 September 2005   11:40:29

was astonished to read in a recent copy of the Melton Times that not enough people had complained about the increased noise from the change to flight paths to cause concern. Wherever I go in the village of Frisby it soon becomes the topic of conversation and most people are complaining. Very few feel the increased number of flights from NEMA is a benefit to access more holidays, most are having their lives and sleep disturbed. I have lived in Frisby for 8 years but have been a regular visitor to grandparents and then parents all my life (now 43). I have never known there to be such terrible noise pollution. We moved away from the St Albans area to escape the motorway and aircraft noise only now to find it is worse than ever here. We must be sat directly below the path as at times particularly at night our house vibrates. Through the day I have noted planes passing over head every 8 minutes and at night, though I continue to try and get used to the noise, there are very few nights that I am not woken by aircraft noise at least once but more often several times!! Our village used to be so peaceful although I acknowledge train noise – that was there when we bought our home however! Whilst writing this email 5 planes have passed over spoiling an otherwise beautiful morning with clear blue skies. Surely there is enough green field land around the East Midlands area to reduce further the number of people affected. It seems to me that the flight path has already affected the ability to sell property in the Wreake Valley – this was previously such a sought after area carrying premium prices that we have all already paid!!

Barrow upon Soar   05 September 2005   08:12:16

Dear Sir, This afternoon (4th September) while sitting outside in our garden in Barrow on Soar we have continually been disturbed by low flying (taking off presumeably) aircraft making an incredible amount of noise. At times we have had to interrupt our conversation because we could not be heard. This also happened last Friday evening between 9.30 and 10.15 when I was speaking to my brother on the phone. Because it was a warm evening I sat on a bench outside my back door but on 3 occasions I had to go indoors and shut the door because what he was saying was drowned out by the aircraft noise. I am regularly woken at about 12 midnight and 1 am by particularly loud aircraft, and my wife has been woken for the last few nights at 3 am and 5 am by other aircraft. Any chance we might get a little peace during the day and a good night's sleep? I understood that the new flight paths would mean that planes would not fly directly over Barrow, published maps show that the planes should be slightly to the North and East of the village and NOT DIRECTLY above my house. In addition, the ones passing overhead at the moment seem to be exceptionally low and in the noisiest phase of their flight. Give us some peace!!
