DEMAND Press Release
"The figures NEMA tried to bury."
10 October 2005
The DEMAND Campaign Group's response to Nottingham East Midlands
Airport press release regarding the results of a mori poll survey.
The ‘hidden’ figures are that a third of people living
under the new flight paths in East Leicestershire are disturbed
by night flights and a quarter by day flights. “These are
significant figures which NEMA has tried to bury in its press release”,
said Steve Charlish! He continued: “Only two thirds of people
under the new flight paths believe that the airport was overall
a good thing for the area. This is the true extent of the damage
done to people’s lives.”
MORI shows that dissatisfaction with the airport spreads even further
than those people living under the new flight paths in East Leicestershire.
Overall satisfaction rates barely scraped over 50%. “This
is borne out by the complaints and emails that we are getting “
said Mr Charlish.
The Mori poll has been sampled within 12 miles of the airport,
and within an area of 26 miles from the airport in East Leicestershire,
however complaints received to the DEMAND Campaign Group extend
to over 40 miles from the airport.
Sampling within Twelve mile radius takes in very high population
levels of Derby, Nottingham, Loughborough and all of the mining
areas around Coalville and Ashby De La Zouch much of the urban areas
with high ambient noise levels.
1562 total people surveyed represents 0.1% in 1.5million people,
how much confidence in NEMA's survey can anybody have when the potential
